How admission actually works

You take the exam. You're ranked against everyone else — your raw score barely matters, your relative standing is everything. UP, Ateneo, and the rest pick the top N. If you're above the cutoff percentile for your campus and program, you're in.

Cutoffs vary by program: BS Math at UP Diliman sits near the 95th percentile, BS Business in Manila around the 85th. Far-flung UP campuses — UP Mindanao, UP Cebu — cut lower because fewer applicants compete for them.

What "85% raw score" means

A raw 85% on a hard, time-pressured exam can land you in the top few percent — or the middle of the pack — depending entirely on how everyone else did. These exams are norm-referenced: scaled scores and percentiles, not raw correct-answer counts, decide admission.

UPCAT publishes a UPG (UP Predicted Grade) that weights HS academic performance alongside UPCAT subscores. A UPG ≤ 2.8 typically admits — roughly the top ~20% of takers across both inputs. That's why "I bombed math but still got in" stories exist: a strong HS GPA carries real weight.
