Sabong bookmakers take roughly 10% off the top. If a fight were truly 50/50, fair odds would pay 1 : 1.00. Instead the bookmaker pays about 1 : 0.90. That gap is the vig, and it is a negative expected value on every single bout.

The bout outcome is random. The math is not. Run 100 bouts at ₱200 stakes and the expected drift is a loss measured in thousands of pesos — the structural ceiling that exists before any "tigil" (rigged, lulled, or thrown matches) gets added on top.

Why "patok" feels predictive

The favourite (llamado) wins about 55–60% of the time. Bettors notice "patok ang panalo" — the favourite keeps winning. What they don't notice is that an 0.85-to-1 payout on a 0.58 win rate is still negative EV.

Why the long run is rigged
